Andrew in a fabric covered Schleicher K7 sailplane on the Canadian praries, 1967. This is where he got his pilot's licence and also learned sailplane flying. Learned thermal flying in full size gliders, not models. Best flight 2 hrs. 20 min |
Andrew's Cessna 170 in 1968. A great family airplane. . Private flying was very carefree in those days, with easy flights to Catalina Island, the Anza Borego Desert, Mexico, and forestry strips in the High Sierras. Shown here on a grass strip at Monache Meadows, at 8000 feet altitude in the Sierras. |

| Andrew flying Brian Lane's single place 46 HP Rotax powered Skyraider, in 2003. Built by Brian. Although nominally a 245 lb ultralight it has flaps, a full electrical system and a 1500 ft/min climb rate. In fact far more than the primitive Champ on the right.. | Andrew's Aeronca Champ, a personal (2 seat) airplane) in 1975. Fabric covered, hand started (no electrical system) what more could you want? Still very carefree flying then with hundreds of little airstrips all over California. |

1919 Hamble, Span 78", Saito 150 four-stroke. The two well dressed, full body, pilots in their cammo were recruited from the Dollar Tree. Andrew's biggest design so far. It was expected to be difficult to fly if the rigging angles were not set up correctly. But the incidence meter did a good job. It turned out to be a majestic and well mannered flyer with an imposing presence in the sky. Much like flying full size, with plenty of time to do everything. |
